Welcome to Year 1
Mrs Carson's Class
For everything you need to know about Year 1 please read our
Check out what activities we have been getting up to in the classroom
Year One pupils really enjoyed listening to the story "Pumpkin Soup"
We talked about the pumpkin we had in our room. The pupils said they have seen lots of pumpkins in the supermarkets, some big and some small.
We carved the pumpkin and talked about what we saw, the seeds and the flesh. We all sniffed to smell the pumpkin. Mrs Carson used a really sharp knife to carve the pumpkin. Once it was done we walked the pumpkin to the willow tunnel. We left the pumpkin and the pumpkin seeds beside it hoping that some animals or birds can enjoy eating it. We will take a walk to observe what has happened to the pumpkin next week.

Maths Day in Year 1RC
Maths does not have to be confined to the classroom. Year One participated in lots of Maths activities as part of outdoor learning and they all had lots of fun!
Pupils moved around various activities developing a different maths skill at each activity.
Pupils enjoyed shape hopscotch and building shape sand castles as well as shape texture boards.
In number work they developed counting using Pom poms in numicon tiles. They also had the opportunity to write numerals with chunky chalk.
There was the opportunity to develop the mathematical language of capacity in the water tray.
Year One thoroughly enjoyed these activities but more importantly had great opportunities to learn while having fun.
Take a look at the attachments below to see all the learning potential that was provided on World Maths Day.

Pupils in Mrs Carson's class had lots of fun during Play Based Learning this week.
They enjoyed taking on roles in the home corner where they pretended to stew apples for apple crumble. They got creative in the play doh using modelling tools to design patterns on play doh leaves similar to those they observed with the magnifying glasses. Great fun was had playing the apple tree game, the race was on to see who would be first to fill their base board with apples. Miss Chestnutt assisted the pupils to paint an Autumn tree and as they were doing so there was lots of opportunity to talk about Autumn observations. The pupils were also delighted when they successfully wrote some Autumnal words from the environment.
Great fun was had by all! Please take a look at the pictures below.

This week pupils in Mrs Carson's class have been learning the Nursery Rhyme "Way up high in the Apple Tree."
We talked about apples and where they grow. We know apples grow in an orchard on Apple trees.
Next we decided to carry out a survey to find out which Apple was favourite in our class. We tasted three different varieties, Golden Delicious, Royal Gala and Granny Smyth apples. Golden Delicious were the favourite. Please take a look at the attached photos. Year One really enjoyed carrying out this survey.

Although, the winners didn't stop there. The School Councillors decided that the competitions were of such a high standard, they awarded everyone an endeavour award. A massive 'WELL DONE' to each and every pupil In Foundation Stage, Keep up the super work!

Year 1RC thoroughly enjoyed Book Week. Pupils had a special delivery from Friendly Fred. When they opened the parcel they found a lovely book called "Beware of the Bears!"
Mrs Carson read the story to the children. It was a real hit being awarded 5 gold stars by Year One.
Later the pupils enjoyed designing their own personal bookmark. We had great illustrations from the pupils in Year One. Please take a look at the attachments below.
