Ballymoney Model Integrated Primary School

This week we have been reading "Class Three All At Sea" by Julia Jarman and learning about characters in stories. We used a technique called hot seating where the children sit on the hot seat and get into role as a character from the book. They answered lots of really great questions from their friends as the character Captain Rotten Teeth or as the magical octopus from the story and had such fun in the process. 

Each morning this week we have joined a fitness zoom hosted by Core NI. Today we had a teacher and student challenge. Ms Browne, Mrs Boreland and Miss Rennie tried so hard but we think the Year 3's and Mrs Mack's boys and girls beat them.

In our computing lessons and in our outdoor learning we have been having fun learning to programme little robots called Beebots. Our challenge was to programme our Beebots with enough moves to go from one point across the mat and finish at another set point. Easier said than done! All our Beebots got quite close to their target destination! We had so much fun seeing if our Beebots would end up going in the direction we wanted them to go.

We have been reading "Sharing a Shell" by Julia Donaldson. Today we had fun painting rocks for our rockpool. They look great!

The Year Three children enjoyed finding out lots of information about our new topic. We are looking forward to learning about the ocean and other areas of water in 'Splish, Splash, Splosh'.

This week we have been learning about the Arctic and some of us recreated an Arctic scene in class using recyclable materials. Outside, we were looking at the cloud patterns in the sky and drawing what we could see on our IPads using ArtSet. Some of us were exploring and making 3D shapes in the sand box. Others were creating a nest for a frozen ice-egg and thinking about how we could keep it insulated and safe in a nest outside. Lots of fun and lots of learning!

We had so much fun today acting out the story 'One Snowy Night' by Nick Butterworth in freeze frames. We thought about how each character was feeling at different points in the story.   We worked together to decide how to capture each scene in the story.

Year 3 had a great time at the Valentine's Disco. They danced, played party games and topped it all off with the longest conga line around the hall! 

On Tuesday, in literacy, we read the story 'Troll Stinks' by Jeanne Willis where the goat in the story finds a phone. We had fun doing a conscience alley activity where we had to listen to good choices and bad choices we could make if we were the goat. What would you do if you found a phone? Should you keep it? What would you use it for? We saw how the choices goat made with how he used the phone had an negative impact on the poor old troll.
