5KH/CD Hillsborough Castle Trip

Year 5 enjoyed their trip to visit Hillsborough Castle.  What a surprise when we knocked the castle door only to be greeted by the chief housekeeper from the Victorian period.  Mrs Lambourne was very strict and wasn't impressed with us.  She explained that getting a job wouldn't be easy and if we did get a job we would be put to work right away.  We visited different rooms in the castle, learned about the foods they ate and how different the food of servants was to that of the wealthy.  Did you know a single pineapple could be worth £5000? Often the wealthy would decorate their dining table with pineapples to show their wealth. We learned about different roles the servants would have had in the household. Unfortunately, when we reached the end the housekeeper realised that the pupils were only 9 years old and they MUST be 13 to apply for a job! After, we had our lunch and explored the gardens together! What a great day out!

Mrs Hayes labelled some trees in our forest area and we started investigating! We measured the circumference and completed calculations to estimate the age of each tree! Which tree do you think is oldest?
