4JM WAU Thematic Highlights: “It’s a Bugs’ Life.”
Year 4 have really enjoyed their Term 3 WAU Thematic topic,“It’s a Bugs’ Life.” During this term, the boys and girls in Mrs Murphy’s class have been busy exploring the school grounds and forest to find out about minibeasts. There has been great interest in learning about the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly by observing the butterfly eggs change and grow into butterflies. Using ICT, the boys and girls have had great fun learning how to created animated stories using the app Scratch Jr and designing beautiful butterfly, caterpillar and ladybird pictures using the app Art Set. Year 4 also extended their Outdoor Learning Week activities by visiting the local residents in Cramsie Court who helped us plant and grow sunflowers. Forest Fridays were enjoyed in lots of sunshine outdoors, as the pupils in Year 4 built minibeast palaces, made symmetrical pictures, identified right angles and participated in minibeast hunts in our school grounds.
Finally, the highlights of our Yr 4 WAU Thematic, “It’s a Bugs’ Life,” culminated with the Yr 4 Visit to the W5 Odyssey , the 15th Special Anniversary Celebrations to Megaw Park and then finally to conclude our Term 3 topic by celebrating in the Yr 4 “Ugly Bug Ball.”
