Year 5EH/CD Capacity Challenge!

17th Jun 2026

Focusing on the topic of Measure, Mr Hayter's class worked collaboratively in small groups to estimate and then accurately measure the capacity of a range of different containers. Taking advantage of the outdoor environment added a sense of excitement and helped bring their learning to life in a practical, hands-on way.

Throughout the lesson, pupils developed a wide range of important skills. Teamwork was key as they discussed their ideas, shared responsibilities, and supported one another in making thoughtful estimates. Communication skills were evident as each group explained their thinking and compared results.

Accuracy and attention to detail were also a major focus, with pupils carefully using measuring equipment and recording their findings. This helped to strengthen their understanding of units of capacity and the importance of precision in mathematical work.

It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, cooperation, and resilience on display. Experiences like this not only build strong numeracy skills but also foster confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.

Well done to everyone in year 5 for their hard work and excellent teamwork!
