Year 5EH/CD Explore the World of 3D Shapes!

11th Jun 2026

Year 5 have been exploring the fascinating world of 3D shapes, focusing on key properties such as vertices, edges and faces. Throughout the topic, pupils have developed their understanding by identifying and describing a wide variety of shapes, ranging from spheres, cones and cylinders to more complex forms like triangular prisms, tetrahedrons, square-based pyramids and even dodecahedrons.

In today’s Maths lesson, pupils applied their knowledge through an engaging 3D shape properties loop challenge. This activity encouraged them to think critically and make connections between different shapes and their features, reinforcing their understanding in an interactive and enjoyable way.

The lesson also provided an excellent opportunity to develop important thinking skills and personal capabilities. Pupils worked collaboratively, using problem-solving strategies and effective communication while managing information to complete the challenge successfully.
