Helping Hands Topic in Play Based Learning

Year One have been thoroughly enjoying their new topic - Helping Hands!

They have been thinking about what job they would like to do when they grow up.

As part of Play Based Learning they have been thinking about different jobs people do.

They all enjoyed being construction workers, building not only a classroom but also designing the furniture required.

There was a lot of problem solving happening as pupils worked hard to complete jigsaws of a variety of people who help us.

Pupils loved listening to the sory "Burglar Bill!" After the story pupils used the ArtSet app to create their own picture of Burglar Bill.

In the reading corner pupils enjoyed looking at a variety of People who help us books, looking at the equipment and vehicles used in different jobs.

Have a look at some of the pictures below.

World Book Day 2024 : Vocabulary Parade

World Book Day 2024 : Vocabulary Parade

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are looking forward to and have already started making exciting plans for World Book Day 2024, which is taking place on Friday 7th March.

This year we will host our first ever Vocabulary Parade! This parade will be a wonderful way to celebrate a love of words and reading, and will be an opportunity for pupils to think of an impressive word that they like and to ‘dress up’ as that word.

Step 1: Choose an interesting or exciting word. Think about unusual words that others may not already know.

Step 2: Plan a costume that illustrates that word. Consider recycling items around your house to make a creative, homemade costume, or use a uniform, dressing up outfit or kit you already have and think of an associated word.

Step 3: Make a large card or sign with the chosen vocabulary word on it, so others will know which word is represented in your costume. Pupils can carry the word, make a headband or hat, or have it as part of their costume. The word needs to be visible so others can read it.

Every year, we are overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of our school community, especially with costume ideas. Dressing up or bringing books into school can be a big part of the celebrations and what pupils particularly enjoy about World Book Day. Just a reminder that costumes do not need to be purchased and we would encourage pupils to think of an impressive word to match something they may already have. For inspiration, there are thousands of great ideas for vocabulary costumes online or we have attached some ideas to this post.

We look forward to your child participating in this special schoolwide event on Friday 7th March.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and continued support.

Children's Mental Health Week in Mrs Carson's Class
8/02/2024 3:14 PM
Children's Mental Health Week in Mrs Carson's Class

Children’s Mental Health Week 5-11 February 2024.

The theme this year is ‘My Voice Matters’.

My Voice Matters is about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves.

When we feel empowered, there’s a positive impact on our wellbeing. Children who feel that their voices are heard and can make a difference have a greater sense of community and self-esteem. In Year 1RC we want all children, regardless of background and ability to be empowered to work together to create a positive change for their mental health and wellbeing.

During Children’s Mental Health Week, we want all children and young people to be able to say – and believe - “My Voice Matters.”

Have a look at some of the activities Year 1RC completed this week.

Thank you.

Today is Internet Safety Day.

Pupils in Mrs Carson's class thought about staying safe while using the internet. They read a story "Digiduck - The big decision"

Reading this story raised awareness of how to be safer on the internet, knowing what to do if something strange appears on a device.

Pupils know to seek advice from an adult, they should never open anything they are unsure about.

Massive well done to our Netball team who competed in their first tournament at Coleraine University. Our girls enjoyed every minute and played brilliantly as a team!
Thank you to Netball NI for providing this wonderful opportunity for everyone involved.

After School Spotlight : Hockey For Fun

We are pleased that we can provide opportunities for our pupils to avail of after school clubs and activities should they wish to do so.
This week's spotlight  was on Hockey For Fun. With the weather still being mild we are delighted to be able to get outside.

After School Clubs Spotlight : Nemesis Cheer and Dance

At Ballymoney Model, we have a fantastic range of after-school clubs that allow pupils to get involved in a variety of activities.

It is great to have Nemesis Cheer and Dance in school and to hear the music and cheering coming from the hall each Wednesday afternoon.
