On Friday 1st March, pupils in Year 6 and 7 took part in two programmes from the Love For Life team. The group sessions and year group workshops were extremely informative and enjoyable, in relation to how they shared information about growing, changing and transitioning to new chapters. Staff and pupil evaluations were very positive and we thank parents and carers for their support in this event.

On Thursday, Y6EG held their class assembly. As it was 29th February 2024, we decided to speak about the leap year. We explained why we have this extra day every four years, and shared some fun facts about the leap day. Mrs Getty is very proud with how confidently all of the pupils spoke in front of a large audience. Well done everyone!

Year 6EG have thoroughly enjoyed their hockey lessons with Diane. The pupils picked up lots of skills and grew in confidence as each session passed. Many have really developed a love for hockey and hope to carry it on outside of school! As this was our last week with Diane, the pupils in Y6 created a card to thank her for sharing her sport with us. We are looking forward to starting tennis next week!

This afternoon, Y6EG got to experience the long-awaited eruptions of our volcanoes, created in Term 2 as part of our topic "It's a Disaster!".
First, we added some bicarbonate of soda into our volcano structure, followed by some vinegar. The pupils had to step back quickly as they observed the reaction taking place instantly. We were delighted to see the eruptions, with lots of smiles, cheers and laughs all around!

In Term 2, Year 6's topic was titled "It's a Disaster". We have explored the structure of the earth and questioned why natural disasters, including volcanic eruptions, happen. The pupils loved creating our model volcanoes, as well as researching well known volcanic eruptions such as the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Pupils in Mrs Getty's class have loved Term 2's topic, "It's a Disaster". We have explored the structure of the earth and questioned why natural disasters including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis and more occur.
Some highlights include conducting independent research using the internet and topic books to research disasters of their choice. This information was collated in informative PowerPoints and presented to the class. We have also looked at well-known disasters, including the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
Our artwork has included splatter paintings of volcanoes, using a mosaic pattern technique to create the earth, and most enjoyably, our junk art creating model volcanoes.
Pupils have been engrossed in our class novel, “Kensuke’s Kingdom”, really enjoyed finding out more about the author, Michael Morpurgo.

During Science Week, Mrs Getty's class have completed lots of interesting work as part of our topic, It's a Disaster. We conducted a sustainable soap experiment, researched the inventor of the Richter scale, Charles Richter, and created junk model volcanoes.

Yesterday we had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day by dressing up and taking part in our school vocabulary parade. Well done to all of the pupils for coming up with some great costume ideas to match their chosen word. We have really enjoyed recieving our golden envelopes each day this week. These have been teaching us new words and their meanings.
Keep reading Y6EG!
